People with the following conditions should go directly to the hospital (instead of Immediate MedCare):
1. Chest Pain or Heart Attack: Suggested by chest pain, pressure or squeezing that may spread to the shoulders, neck, jaw or arm. May also be accompanied by lightheadedness, fainting, sweating, nausea or shortness of breath. Stroke or Extreme Dizziness: Loss of the use of part of your body (usually loss of ability to control movement or speech). New clot dissolving drugs are currently in use to treat heart attacks and strokes in the hospital. Time is of the essence in administering these drugs. Therefore, the time lost in visiting our office is not the patient’s best interest. 3. Heart Rhythm Disturbance: Causing fainting, sweating or profound weakness. Severe Breathing Difficulty: Our professional staff treat all levels of asthma and breathing difficulties on a regular basis. However, there are a few situations in which a person with severe breathing difficulty requires hospital evaluation. For example: When an asthmatic who has a nebulizer at home finds that the treatments are ineffective in relieving severe symptoms; or When someone not known to be asthmatic experiences respiratory distress of a severe nature; and When a patient has severe breathing difficulties that causes limpness, lethargy, sleepiness or a blue or gray color. 5. Loss of Consciousness/Faintness: While lightheadedness or near fainting associated with illness or stress may be seen at our center, true unconsciousness with severe headache requires hospital evaluation. Suicidal or Severely Mentally Ill Patients: Call your Primary Care Provider.
If you believe a situation is life-threatening, dial 911 for immediate assistance and an ambulance. |
